Addiction and breaking the pattern
When something has become a pattern, it can feel as though you’re no longer the one in control.

Whether it’s alcohol, drugs, prescription medication, food, or another behaviour that has become difficult to change, addiction can gradually take up more space in your life than you ever intended.
You may have tried to stop before.
You may have promised yourself “this time will be different.”
And yet, somehow, the same pattern returns.
How Hypnotherapy can help
Hypnotherapy can help you understand the pattern beneath the behaviour — and begin creating a different response.

Addictive patterns are rarely just about willpower.
There can be emotions, beliefs, stress, triggers and deeply learned habits sitting underneath the behaviour.
Perhaps the substance or behaviour has become a way of:
- calming anxiety
- escaping difficult emotions
- switching off
- feeling in control
- rewarding yourself
- coping with stress
- filling an emotional need
- avoiding something that feels uncomfortable
Over time, the brain and body can learn these patterns so well that they can begin to feel automatic.
That’s why simply telling yourself to stop isn’t always enough.
Hypnotherapy works with the deeper patterns that can keep the cycle going, helping you develop new ways of responding to cravings, triggers and difficult emotions.
Treatment
Changing the pattern from the inside

Your subconscious mind plays an important role in the habits you repeat.
Through hypnosis, we can work with the thoughts, emotions, associations and learned responses connected to the behaviour.
Rather than simply fighting the urge, you can begin to understand what sits underneath it.
And when you understand the pattern, you have more opportunity to change it.
Hypnotherapy can help you develop:
Greater awareness
Recognising your triggers and understanding what is happening before the behaviour takes over.
More choice
Creating a pause between the urge and the action, giving you space to make a different decision.
Calmer responses
Learning healthier ways to manage stress, uncomfortable emotions and situations that previously triggered the behaviour.
Greater self-belief
Moving away from “I can’t control this” towards “I am capable of making different choices.”
A new relationship with yourself
Replacing shame and self-criticism with understanding, responsibility and self-compassion.

A note about addiction
Hypnotherapy can be a valuable complementary approach for changing behaviours, beliefs and emotional patterns, but it isn’t a substitute for appropriate medical or addiction treatment. Some substances can cause dangerous withdrawal if stopped suddenly. If you’re physically dependent on alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids or another substance, medical guidance should be sought before making significant changes to use.
